The following comes to me from Adrienne Kinne, member of the Vermont chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War. In addition to the links below, you can find out more information on Sgt. Kokesh and his defense fund on his blog
What will it take to end the American invasion and occupation against the people of Iraq? We have tried protests, rallies, petitions, resolutions, town meetings, voting
, calling our representatives, and the list could go on, all with the same message that it is time to end this war and bring our soldiers home now. Despite these efforts, the Bush administration has been very clear that it plans to not only continue, but indeed escalate, this war in the months and years to come. And, despite the duty that Congress has to uphold the will of the American people, it has just given this administration the green light to carry out its plans of destruction by voting to continue funding the war, a fact which will lead to countless more deaths of American soldiers and Iraqis alike. Ultimately, this war will end when our soldiers realize that they have a right not to be used to wage an illegal war of aggression against the people of Iraq and resist the war by standing down. There are signs that our soldiers are getting the message. Over 40,000 soldiers have gone absent without leave since September 11th, reenlistment is down (though stop-loss prevents many soldiers from departing the military at the end of their contracts), and the number of conscientious objector applications being filed by active duty, Reserve, and National Guard soldiers is on the rise.
