Scott Undermines Privacy of Most Vulnerable

First came ICE, now comes the food police. And yet again, Governor Phil Scott has proven his willingness to disregard the most vulnerable Vermonters.

This time he chose to send the Trump Administration sensitive personal data of Vermonters on SNAP food assistance. This includes the names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and even the addresses of 65,000 Vermonters who are, or have been, enrolled in the SNAP program over the last five years.

And, soon the government will be looking in your shopping cart. Because Scott is compiling and planning to send information about what specific foods were bought by Vermonters using electronic benefits (EBT) cards.

Scott admitted he has no idea why Trump wants the information, and why he needs to know what is in your grocery bag. But, we do know it is a major violation of privacy and breach of trust between state government and citizens.

That’s why 20 other states have joined a lawsuit opposing Trump‘s demands for the information. Scott could’ve had Vermont join those other states, but he refused. Instead, he showed total disregard for the privacy of those Vermonters he constantly claims to stand up for by providing the requested data to the Trump administration.
