The Vermont Progressive Party calls for investigation into the Trump Administration’s Propaganda

As of Wednesday, September 23rd, the Trump administration began airing TV advertisements that claim to be “paid for by the U.S. Government.” One ad in particular lies about supposed achievements by the administration, and scapegoats Marxism, communism, and socialism as the country’s chief concerns to deflect from Trump’s own corruption and failures. This ad is an intentional misuse of government resources and a violation of federal appropriations and ethics laws, which prohibits using taxpayer dollars to promote candidates and/or political parties. The Vermont Progressive Party calls for elected officials at all levels to demand answers and call for an investigation into this crime.

Once again, Trump has demonstrated dictatorial behavior, and the GOP has implicated itself as complicit, both actively and via complacency. And, once again, our Governor has no response. Phil Scott has expressed no concern about the Trump administration’s wasteful spending — the wasteful spending of working-class Vermonters' tax dollars. Meanwhile, Vermonters face record-high heating oil and gasoline prices, a housing crisis, and worry about whether they can have their children educated. These are all things that there are existing resources to address if we appropriated funds properly to benefit workers over the priorities of Trump and his billionaire class. Instead, the federal government is subsidizing corporate oligarchy, waging wasteful wars, and funding genocides.

The corruption must end. The apathy toward corruption must end. Phil Scott’s silence is akin to committing the crimes himself. We ask voters to hold him accountable come November 3rd by voting for Amanda Janoo for Governor. It is a meaningful step we can make toward ensuring the country knows that Vermont is not an accessory to oligarchy or fraud.
