Vermont Progressive Party Continues to Grow
Montpelier, Vermont — The Coordinating Committee of the Vermont Progressive Party voted unanimously yesterday to expand their capacity by restructuring and adding additional staff. This comes after successfully organizing more than 49 town committees in ten counties last fall which resulted in an unprecedented number of candidates on the ballot this November.
Heather Thomas, who has deep connections with endorsed candidates as well as local activists, will move to the role of Director of Organizing. In that role she will provide direct support to candidates and campaigns, support activities and events, and continue to grow the party base in towns and counties across the state.
“The last year has shown us what happens when Vermonters work together to build power in the state,” said Thomas. “I’m thrilled to be working with Megan as Executive Director, and our party members around the state, to continue to grow our presence and positive impact across Vermont communities, and in the statehouse.”
Megan Polyte of Burlington will join VPP as Executive Director. Polyte brings almost three decades of experience with the Progressive Party, Vermont politics, campaigns and issues-based organizing and will collaborate with the Director of Organizing to grow the Party and advance issues of critical importance to Vermonters.
“I am excited for the opportunity to work with Heather, our amazing candidates, and Progressive leaders around the state,” said Polyte. “Vermonters are very engaged right now and there is palpable energy for our candidates who are fighting for stronger communities, access to housing and health care, and jobs that pay a livable wage.”
There are currently 28 candidates running for office throughout Vermont with the Progressive Party’s endorsement.
